Privacy Policy

Martyria is a personal timeline of God’s faithfulness. The short version of this policy: your entries are yours. Your timeline is private to your account, is never shared with or shown to other users, and is never sold. We collect only what the app needs to work, and nothing else.
What we collect
Account information. When you create an account we store your name, email address, and the date you signed up. The app also asks for your birthday. That is optional, and it is used for one thing: so you can date an entry by how old you were when it happened. If you sign in with Google or Apple, those providers share your name and email address with us; we never see or store a password for those accounts. If you sign up with email and password, the password is handled entirely by our authentication provider (Google Firebase) and is never visible to us.
Your entries. The journal entries, prayers, and praise reports you write, including their titles, notes, dates, and types. This is the heart of the app.
Photos you attach. If you add a photo to an entry, it is resized on your device and then stored with that entry under your account. Your photos are private to you in exactly the way the rest of your timeline is, and they are removed when you delete the entry or your account. The app asks for camera or photo library access only at the moment you choose to add a photo, and it never browses your library on its own.
Dictation. The note field has an optional microphone button. When you use it, your speech is turned into text by your phone’s own speech recognizer. We ask for on-device recognition wherever your device supports it, in which case the audio never leaves your phone. Where your device does not support it, Apple or Google may process the audio on their servers under their own privacy terms. We never record, receive, or store audio ourselves. Only the text you end up with is saved, and only as part of your note.
Text scanning. When you scan the words out of a photo, the recognition runs entirely on your device. The image is never sent anywhere to be read.
Reminders. Reminders are off unless you turn them on. When you do, we store your reminder settings (how often, the day and time, your time zone, and whether entry titles may appear on your lock screen) and, for each phone you use, the notification token that lets a reminder reach it, along with the phone’s platform and app version. While reminders are on, our servers keep a private copy of each entry’s title, date, and type, never its note or photos. An automated process uses that copy, along with when you last added an entry and which of your prayers you have marked answered or archived, to choose what to remind you of or which prayer to ask you about. Turning reminders off deletes that copy, and signing out removes that phone’s token.
App settings. Preferences such as your chosen Scripture translation are stored on your device only and never leave it.
Drafts and offline writing. While you write, an unfinished entry is kept on your device so it is not lost if the app closes, and anything you save without a connection waits on your device until it can upload. Signing out removes both from the device.
That is the whole list. We do not collect your location, your contacts, your photo library, usage analytics, or advertising identifiers.
How your data is stored and protected
Your account and entries are stored with Google Firebase (Authentication and Cloud Firestore), and photos you attach are stored in Firebase Cloud Storage. Firebase encrypts data in transit and at rest. Access rules ensure your entries and your photos can only be read or written by your own signed-in account. Firebase processes this data on our behalf under Google’s privacy terms.
Reminders arrive as push notifications. We hand each one to Expo’s push notification service, which passes it to Apple or Google to reach your phone, the route every app’s notifications take. A reminder can include the title of one of your entries. If you would rather it did not, turn off Show entry titles in reminder settings and it will only say that there is something to remember. Expo handles its part under its own privacy policy.
No person reads your entries. The only thing that looks at them is the automated reminder process above, and only while you have reminders on. Your timeline is never visible to other users, and we would only access an individual account’s data to resolve a problem you ask us for help with, or if the law requires it.
What we never do
We do not sell your data. We do not share it with third parties for marketing. We do not show ads. We do not use analytics or tracking services. There is no social feed, and nothing you write is ever shown to another person unless you share it yourself, one entry at a time, through your phone’s share sheet.
Deleting your data
You can delete your account and everything in it at any time from inside the app: Profile → Manage account → Delete account & data. That removes your entries, every photo attached to them, and your reminder settings and phone tokens. Deletion is immediate and permanent; we keep no copies. If you can no longer access the app, email [email protected] and we will delete your account for you.
We send account emails only when you request them, such as a password reset. If you email support, we keep the correspondence so we can help you. We do not send marketing email.
Children
Martyria is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update this page and its effective date. The promise at the top will not change: your entries stay private, and they are never sold.
